DNJ Projects chooses five star plasterboard

In the upmarket suburb of Hatfield, Pretoria/Tshwane, the Protea Hotel Manor provides a three star stay for guests and business people making use of its 102 rooms in 3500m2 space. During work on the building, drywall partitioning and ceiling specialists DNJ Projects used 12mm and 9mm Lafarge Gypsum plasterboards and complementary grid and finishing material in the renovation of the hotel’s interior.

DNJ Projects Director Jose Menezes says the choice of product was based not only on architect specification but on convenience, ease of use and customer service his company receives from Lafarge. “We have a good relationship with Lafarge Gypsum and enjoy both excellent service and high quality products,” Menezes says. “The ‘green’ aspect of the Lafarge range appeals to our company and to our clients, many of whom favour products that are safe and environmentally friendly.”

The Lafarge plasterboard range offers flexibility for architects, designers and project developers – as well fire and moisture resistance, it is also SANS 266 certified. As part of the company’s commitment to Building Better Cities, Lafarge Gypsum was the first plasterboard manufacturer in South Africa with eco-specifier listed products and to attain the SANS 266- SABS Mark product certification.

Suitable for internal walls, ceilings and partitions in residential and commercial buildings, the Lafarge Gypsum range of plasterboard comprises an aerated gypsum core encased in and firmly bonded on both sides with special plasterboard paper liner, made of 100% recycled paper.

According to Jean-Paul Croze, Managing Director of Lafarge Gypsum South Africa, the Lafarge Fire Check Board is recommended for dry walling in areas where additional fire resistance is required. “These boards are tested at the SABS Pretoria Fire Testing facility to SANS 10177 part 2 – 1981 and can be designed to suit specific fire rating requirements. The plasterboard is available in thicknesses of 12,5mm and 15mm.”

Also available in these sizes, the Lafarge Moisture Check Plasterboard is recommended for use in all wet areas and is enhanced with special additives in their core to retard the moisture absorption rate and ensure a high performance level over time.

“DNJ Projects used moisture boards in all bathrooms of the Hotel Manor that we worked in,” says Menezes. “Due to Moisture Check’s light weight and solid design, it is safe and ideal for smaller spaces.”

Croze adds that Lafarge products carry a 10 year warranty, provided a full set of Lafarge Gypsum system is used during installation and the product is installed as specified by Lafarge Gypsum. “Depending on site condition, environment and general maintenance of the building, a life expectancy of over 20 years can be achieved, further enhancing our aim of building better cities by expanding the time between renovations or repair.”
