Energy
roof, Perugia Italy
'Energy
roof' serves as canopy along via Mazzini in the center of Perugia
and at the same time creates the entry point to the archaeological
underground passage leading through the history of Perugia. The
passage connects the city center with the mini metro station
Pincetto. Historical documents show the existence of the old
etruscan city wall in the area below Piazza Giacomo Matteotti which
coop himmelb(l)au proposes to excavate as part of an underground
public gallery space exhibiting the history of Perugia. Openings in
the ground of the Piazza Giacomo Matteotti visually connect the
underground passage with the 'energy roof'.

ArchRecord's House of the
month - Jan 2010
It seems
appropriate that Modern architecture should appear in
Grossburgwedel, Germany—an enclave in a medieval region that has
demonstrated progressive leanings over the course of its long
history. The Lower Saxony town of 22,000, just 12 miles north of
major hub Hannover, is the perfect suburb for cultured city workers
to build their dream house-which is exactly what architect Susanne
Nobis's clients asked her to do. The very private clients, a
couple, knew of Berg, Germany–based Nobis and appreciated her
spare, sleek aesthetic. They asked her to design a house on a site
of meadows, fields, and an old oak grove with 40 trees forming an
allée leading into a wide, open space. The clients had a single
program requirement: "they asked me to design a home where they
could live with, and in, nature," Nobis recalls.

Make
yourself comfortable
This year,
it’s all about new takes on old favourites, a continuing delight in
personalising our interiors and the rise of the crafts refusenik.
Pattern is still our passion, but the increased popularity of
subtle cutout motifs may mark the beginning of a move away from
Noughties shouty wallpaper. And the latest steel furnishings in
primary colours indicate that we are finally happy saying no to
neutrals.

A
lightweight solution for a heavyweight hotel
Building a building on top of another building is a challenge at
the best of times, but the developers of the Hype Park Shopping
Centre in Johannesburg were determined to complete their exclusive
service offering with the construction of a four star hotel atop
the shopping complex, and to do it in record-breaking time.
