Plascon will be unveiling its 2014 colour forecast at Decorex Joburg in August this year, once more giving South Africa’s decorating and design community their annual taste of the colour trends to come next year.
Decorex Joburg is Africa’s largest décor, design and lifestyle exhibition and takes place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from 7th to 11th August 2013. Plascon is the headline sponsor of Decorex SA and has traditionally used Decorex Joburg as the platform to launch their all-important colour forecast.
“We know that at Decorex Joburg, we have the opportunity to engage with Gauteng’s décor and design professionals as well as the décor-hungry Johannesburg public – all in one place atGauteng’s premier décor exhibition,” says Anne Roselt, Plascon colour manager.
This year’s colour forecast has as its theme Colour Nation – coincidentally exactly the same theme for 1994, 20 years ago when Decorex Joburg launch with Plascon as sponsor. The four themes of the 2014 forecast will be brought to life at Decorex Joburg in August, with four rooms styled up by Laurence Brick Creative Direction, each reflecting one of the themes. The full 2014 Plascon Colour Forecast will also be launched in the Plasconmagazine, Spaces, on sale at the Plascon stand.
“The reason for the Colour Nation theme in 2014 is that while we are inspired and inevitably influenced by other countries through travel, the internet and global events such as the Olympics and the Soccer World Cup, there is a strong bond to the colours of our nation. It unifies us and differentiates us in the way we choose to express it,” said Anne Roselt.
She said South Africans were particularly proud that they and other southern hemisphere countries like Brazil were driving the global love affair with colour – and at the same time attracting world attention to the social and environmental issues facing their lands.
The micro colour trends that will feature in the Plascon 2014 Colour Forecast will include Urban Tribe (hot clashing colours to remind us no people are the same), Second nature (reflecting jungles, rainforests and a generally “wet” palette of colours), Calm Contrast (the new pastels that are more natural than feminine) and Inner Space (featuring the dark moody colours associated with space travel).
Anne Roselt, who is on the international panel for Mix Trends – a UK-based colour trend forecast book – said she had worked with the Durban-based International Trends Institute and Laurence Brick Creative Direction to draw up the 2014 Plascon Colour Forecast.
Sian Steyn, general manager of events and exhibitions at Decorex SA, said the Decorex Joburg community always looked forward to the unveiling of the Plascon Colour Forecast.
“The big Plascon reveal is our first taste of what décor and lifestyle trends are in store for next year and the forecast become one of the most talked about features at Decorex Joburg,” said Sian.
The Plascon installation can be found between halls 2 and 3 at Decorex Joburg and visitors are invited to enjoy a refreshment at the nearby Plascon Colour Café while they enjoy the exciting new trend installation.
