Creatives within the vast fields of design have a chance to submit their concrete inspired designs or work concepts for consideration in the PPC Imaginarium Awards. The awards submission deadline was extended to August 31st, making it possible for students and design artists within the 6 specified creative disciplines of the design field, to walk away with critical acclaim and up to R100 000 in cash prizes.
Initiated as a platform to encourage the fine arts and design, the PPC Imaginarium Awards and competition aims to give recognition to established and undiscovered talent operating within South Africa, shedding light on the untapped growth capabilities the fine arts has for the country’s economy.
Those interested in making submissions must be South African citizens, or international students with study permits who are 18-years-old or above. They can enter their innovative design concepts into the sculpture, jewellery, architecture, industrial design, and film and fashion categories.
Submissions in each category will be judged by an external panel of experts, including fashion and design specialists, Dion Chang and David Tlale, jeweler and sculpture artist, Verna Joost, sculpture artists Adriaan Hugo and Diane Victor as well as film maker, Hanneke Shutte and architect, Mokena Makeka.
The appointed judges have the daunting task of crowning the winners in each category. The winner in each category will receive a R50 000 cash prize together with a guaranteed exhibit of their work, affording them the opportunity to sell their work. The film category winner will be given mentoring and technical support, along with a R35 000 budget to professionally produce their film. Runners up will be granted a R15 000 merit prize while the category winners will automatically be eligible for the overall winner of the awards. Once an overall winner is chosen, he or she will be named PPC Imaginarium Champion. The said champion will be awarded a R100 000 cash prize and he or she will have earned the respect of fellow design artists; an accolade which some place more value on, compared to monitory benefit.
Competition entrants will, for the duration of the competition, be mentored by experts in their respective design fields and they’ll have extensive media coverage of their designs and progress in the competition. Nurturing the skills of the entrants and giving an audience to the innovation, creativity and unconventional ideas of well deserving minds is part and parcel of the awards coming into being.
Designers interested in entering their concepts should submit a written explanation and sketches of their designs at www.ppcimaginarium.co.za . To get clarification on the terms and conditions, submission closing dates, award winner announcement dates or any other information, send an email to email@example.com or visit the PPC Imaginarium website.
