Hi Kelvin,

I'll upload a photo of me soon. My photo's are on my home PC and it just decided to have a major breakdown. Right now it's in for repairs and waiting for some hardware part.
I'm currently making use of the internet cafe close to me.

Regards,

Basil

Hi Kelvin, is it possible to make my activities and comments on Designmind private? I noticed when I google my name, all my Desigmind comments show up. I am not comfortable with the idea that my comments and activities are available for all to see.

Subject: Favour to ask!

Hi ,

Hope you are well?

I have a favour to ask. My daughter, Louise, is doing a Furniture & Product Design Degree. It is a four year course and she is on her third year at the moment which is a placement year. She has to undertake at least 7 months work experience.

She is working, at the moment for 6 months at a company in the UK called Fairline Boats and is due to finish with them in December.

She would like to come out to South Africa at New Year and possibly stay for around 3 months and find a company where she could perhaps work for 2-3 months for the extra work experience that she needs to complete her third year. Her boyfriends family have a house in near Cape Town (Paarl) and she has a couple of friends nearby where she can stay during this time.

Louise would be looking for a company that possibly gets involved in interior, graphic or furniture/product design. Do you know of, or could perhaps put me in touch with, any companies that you know within the Paarl area that could possibly take on a student (for free!).

Thanks for your help.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Suzanne Collin

Thank you for the warm welcome Kelvin, and yes i definitely will be telling my colleagues about this site. Its certainly is the way of the future, the days of throwing big budget parties to try and network is past. Using more creative ways to socialize is key and one i think Design minds has got right.... i hope it grows from strength to strength

Hi Kelvin,
I would like to note that I strongly disapprove of David Clark's request to remove a thread. It IS an emotional matter - it affects peoples lives.
But, as I have commented in the thread, I will leave others to judge.

Kelvin, I think you should look at the threads regarding SACAP. I was disturbed at the emotional nature that this subject had taken, and feel that this is not beneficial to the profession. So I tried to bring a little rationality to the fore. I don't care to be confronted with the language and tone used by 'Alan'.

Controversy and even heated debate is seductive and sometimes can be useful, but when it descends to emotional insults of and includes objectionable language, it only casts the entire profession in bad light. It certainly does not appear to me to be heading in the direction of useful outcomes.

Perhaps it has crossed over into an area that requires the forum moderator to step in and apply a little control. I think the entire thread should be removed from the website. But that's your call.
