About my industry function.
I’m a young architect. I have worked abroad for several years and am now living and working in South Africa. I have worked for some of Europe's largest corporate practices — including at least two in the top twenty of this year's AJ100. I understand the realities of developer-driven architecture. And yet, I’m sick of bad architecture and urbanism. I’m bored of the excuses and apathy.

Hi
Just want to introduce our business to you.

If you feel this is usefull to you, please ad us to your colleague list.

We do Building Cost Estimations with local material and labour prices for your area:

• Standard rates are between R2.50 per square meter, with a minimum fee of R500 for firs 400 square meter depending on the size and detail required.

The Cost Estimate can be used:
* AS AN ACCURATE GUIDE TO BUILDING COSTS
* TO ASSIST IN ESTABLISHING THE CORRECT CONTRACT PRICE
* FOR RAISING FINANCE AT A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION
* TO ORDER CORRECT MATERIAL QUANTITIES
* FOR STOCK CONTROL (THEFT ETC)
* AS A GUIDE TO MATERIAL PRICES
* AS A GUIDE TO LABOUR COSTS
* AS A GUIDE TO SUB-CONTRACTOR RATES
* TO TAKE THE GUESSWORK OUT OF QUOTING
* TO SAVE MUCH TIME, MONEY AND BE MORE PROFFESSIONAL
* TO AVOID HIDDEN COSTS AND PITFALLS
* TO PUT YOU IN CHARGE
It is wise to use the services of an experienced Cost Estimator as we have had years of experience and are in touch daily with market related prices and rates. We have a good feel for hidden costs and can also advise on possible savings. If you do not know all the labour rates and do not know how to accurately calculate the material quantities yourself, then it is strongly advised to utilise the services of a professional cost estimator. We are there to advise you as to what the market related price should be for your anticipated project. Without this information, you are walking in the dark!

Morning thanks. Read the sting you applied to the the (office?) block in Natal with the red wall unrelated to anything around it or even the other facades. I am still processing what i felt though and loved about being in London & Paris.
Have a great day.

Hi Silent Bee,

Thanks for the invite! I'm sorry I took so long to respond - somehow, in all the rush and activity, it escaped my notice until now.

I had a look at your link to Ted Kunstler and I wholeheartedly agree. I was wondering whether I am the only one who finds about 90% of our built environment ugly and almost unliveable ...or at best bland and utterly boring. And that includes some of the most prestigious security village, for instance some here at the Hartbeespoortdam where I live.

I like Kunstler's reference to it as 'entropy made visible.' Much of it is nothing more than what I would call Technological Exhibitionism.

There is much I would like to discuss with you, but my current time constraints prevents this, but as soon as the pressure has subsided I would like to resume a discussion with you...

but silent bee - you do realise that if you remain un-named in criticism, you are not putting yourself at risk, and simultaneously risking not being taken seriously.... If going to make a noise and level complaints, better to identify yourself???? whaddaya say?
