The much anticipated Plascon 2012 Colour Forecast will today be revealed at Decorex to members of the décor and design trade.
The forecast is endorsed by the International Colour Authority (ICA) London and compiled by Anne Roselt, international colour forecaster and Colour Manager for Plascon.
Says Roselt “The Plascon’s annual colour forecast is an indication of the colours we will be seeing in 2012 from fashion, to décor and accessories. Based on months of research into international and local colour trends, thirty-two colours have been chosen as colour directions for 2012 and they fall into four themes: Memory, Expression, Mystery and Origins”.
The Memory palette is a range of soft muted pastels grounded by neutrals and darker tones. This theme brings a sense of romance into a room and is complemented by antiqued finishes, fluid lines and delicate lace.
Our second theme of Expression shouts a sense of celebration. Red, White and Royal blue are prominent here inspired by the recent Royal wedding and the upcoming 2012 Olympic games in London. This theme works well with colour blocking, geometric patterns as well as white with brights.
Mystery is a sophisticated range of neutrals mixed with stronger highlight colours like grey and plum. This is a theme of contrasts playing with accents for maximum impact but maintaining an underlying simplicity.
Lastly, the theme of Origins exudes a home grown richness and a desire to go back to basics. Raw textures, ethnic inspired designs and unpretentious wooden furniture are the inspiration here and the colours range from wood inspired neutrals to camel and black.
Says Roselt, “These themes and colours are provided to inspire you but it is how you interpret these themes that counts. Colour is something to be enjoyed, and trends are broad brushstrokes on how to do that. Loving colour is about exploring and interpreting these themes into your life. This is about the world both as it is, and how you want it to be and that is why we have called the 2012 Forecast - Endless Possibility”.
