The 2010 Eskom Energy Efficient Lighting Design Competition

The goal of the energy efficient lighting design competition is to demonstrate that efficient lighting technologies, such as discharge, fluorescent and LED technologies, can be used in very contemporary and attractive luminaires and lighting design systems intended for residential lighting.

Prizes
The winner in the student category will receive a cash prize of R30 000, the runner-up R20 000 and the second runner-up R10 000 sponsored by Eskom. The department at the tertiary institution of the winning student, will win R10 000, sponsored by Eskom. The winner in the innovative energy efficient lighting design category will be awarded a cash prize of R30 000, sponsored by Eskom, as well as the Sparks floating trophy.

These prizes will be awarded at the eta Awards function to be hosted by Eskom in October 2010. eta is the Greek symbol for efficiency, hence the name of the eta Awards. The purpose of the eta Awards is to reward exceptional effort in the more efficient use of energy by individuals, students, companies or other institutions.

Eskom will bear the travel and accommodation costs of one representative of the winning entry in each of the categories to attend this function held in Gauteng.

Total prize money: R200 000
Closing date
The closing date for entries is close of business on 30 July 2010.
No late or incomplete entries will be accepted and no correspondence will be entered into.
Judging
The entries will be judged by a representative panel of judges, selected on the basis of their experience and expertise in the lighting, electrical and design fields.
