Enviroment

 

In environmental terms, electric under floor heating stands its ground.

If one considers the massive complex manufacturing and logistic processes involved in producing solar systems or extracting fossil fuels, and compares it to the relative simplicity of an electrical system, with minimal equipment requirements, zero maintenance and low equipment replacement need, the benefits to the environment are clear.

Solar water heating systems are restrictively expensive, and only the very wealthy have access to the very best technology.

The burden of producing clean energy lies with electricity producers, individual homeowners have a responsibility to use the energy produced wisely.

 

A properly insulated home, with a modern electrical under floor heating system, used correctly and responsibly is as, if not more environmentally friendly as a solar system , and a whole lot cheaper to.

 

 

Heating is determined in watts. According to international standards, you

Would need a minimum of 1kW for every 10m2, for example:

1KW STANDARD 5.4 SQM FLOOR COVERAGE-CONTINUOUS COVER

A room of 4 X 5 m =20m2 would need 2 kW. The heater covers between 50 and

54% of the total floor space of the room. This will be sufficient to reach an ambient temperature of 28ºC to 30ºC.

 

ESKOM charges approximately R1.20 per kilowatt hour.

(COULD DIFFER FROM CITY TO CITY)

Thus 20m2 room = 2kW

Heater coverage = 10 to 10.8 m2

2 X R1.20 = R 2.40 per hour

A 40m2 room = 4kW

Heater coverage = 20 to 21.6 m2

4 X R1.20 = R 4.80 per hour

Total cost of both rooms will be R 2.40 + R 4.80 = R7.20per hour

 

Remember that the heaters are controlled by a thermostat, therefore will not run continually if the correct wattage is installed, That is why, after initial warming, the cost decreases as the heaters do not use electricity for the full hour.

4 X 0.38 = R 1.52 per hour

   

Total cost of both rooms will be R 0.76 + R     1.52 = R2.28 per hour
