The new state-of-the-art Bridge City Station officially commenced its operations on the 3rd of February 2014. The R1.3 billion project forms part of the city’s IRPTN (Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network), and was proposed as part of PRASA’s (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa)overall integrated approach to passenger rail service in bringing communities closer to integrated public transport solutions.
The Bridge City rail link connects the mixed use Bridge City Development, which includes the Magistrates Court, the proposed Provincial Hospital and the Bridge City Shopping Centre. In 2010 Igneous Concrete was specified by MDS Architecture to supply Bridge City Shopping Centre with seating (twenty three Ulterior Table Benches), bins (eighteen External Bins) and pots (eighteen Standard Off-Round Pots).
In December 2014, through the specification of Architects Collaborative, twenty six Ulterior Benches were installed at Bridge City Station. This is the same bench installed throughout the external areas of the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The benches supplied for Bridge City Station were manufactured in two custom shades – as seen on the right, the legs in one and the seat/backrest sections in another – to create an interesting aesthetic suiting the surrounds. The benches were successfully installed by our experienced and professional installation team.
