The Top Ten entrants in the 2014 competition have been selected. All ten finalists will attend the PG Bison 1.618 Awards evening in October where the winners will be announced.
The judging for this year’s competition took place at Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) – the location on which this year’s brief was based.
A record number of entries were received by the competition office from architecture and interior design institutions across the country.
Jason Wells, Marketing Manager at PG Bison, attributes the high number of submissions to the challenging (and exciting) task set out in the brief. Students were asked by JAG and the Johannesburg Municipality to redesign the modern extension, a part of the gallery rendered unusable for its intended purpose due to a lack of funding and maintenance.
A busy morning of judging was followed by a lunch hosted by PG Bison at the Clico Boutique Hotel in Rosebank, where the panel further discussed the merits of the winning entries.
