Calls by commercial property owners have been made to the Minister of Rural Development and Land Affairs, Gugile Nkwinti, to expedite the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act, 2013. Commercial property owners are battling with the extensive bureaucracy and other delaying factors associated with the new act. These lengthy delays have cost the property industry R20 – billion in GDP growth, and could lead to the loss of as many as 16 000 jobs. To read the minister’s response to these calls, read here.
